Sometimes they just will not go on without considerable, ah, encouragement. I used to just twirl the stock screwdriver in the end to open up the hole a bit, but if you push too hard you'll crack it that way.
Really just get yourself some real lug nuts and take a hammer to the vinyl garbage the kit comes with. Life's too short to fight with bad lug nuts.
